The Soul/Stardust/Liar Conundrum

In an attempt to draw a connection between the human penchant for being deceitful and our supposed corporeal origin, I’ve fashioned a new maxim: “You lie like stardust”.

Now you may be thinking: hmmm, that’s pretty similar to the old maxim “You lie like a rug”.

Well you’d be right; I’m totally guilty of using poetic-licence to assist in clarifying my rational that the “quasi-root cause for our human fondness for deception” is the terrestrial combination of our souls and stardust.

Recorded anthropological history is endemic with whoppers, so to me it’s painfully and patently obvious that without the human ability to be dishonest we couldn’t and wouldn’t be the celestial creatures we’ve become.

In fact I think I can unequivocally state that lying’s a human prerequisite, a fact of life that’s as necessary as breathing.

Now some of you are undoubtedly harrumphing at my inference, but the facts are what they are; we’ve all lied, are lying, and will be lying, which can and should be laid at the feet of the inherent complexities of mortality that invariably demands our involvement in the chronicles of prevaricators.

Now we can of course be hopeful that eventually humanity will evolve past the need to garble the truth. But until that breath of fresh air comes along we should perhaps consider how the termination of this disgusting mortal vice will also lead to the end of most of the current realities related to lying.

A partial list would almost certainly include:

Criminals with the law and order in hot pursuit; prisons and their sentries to guard them; the ever-present wars between earth’s tribes; politicians as they parody the swine being slopped. And of course how can we leave out those perhaps most in need of flagellation; the sanctimonious clergy.

The quantum change in human relations that the end of lying would herald would also dictate a decrease in the number of scribes who put pen to paper to proclaim the endless tales of the public’s double-dealing ways.

Regrettably folks that may include me, your humble spinner of anecdotes; so….perhaps a little fibbing isn’t so bad after all; besides; according to the reams of text supporting the divine theory on liars:

Fibs can’t exist without the truth, and the truth will set you free.

But sigh….that’s contingent with you actually having a conscience; and as you may know, liars are generally bereft in the morals department.

Who’d a thunk it?

Lies stitching together the very fabric of our lives….it’s it’s….almost Orwellian.
